Soil Essence Golf Course

Soil Essence Golf has all of the benefits of our Soil Essence Humus but is made especially for Golf Courses.  It is a super-fine manure-free compost screened to ¼" minus.  Soil Essence Golf has evolved from a long working relationship with Lahontan Golf Course in Truckee, CA, and Incline Golf Course in Incline Village, NV.  What we found was a subtle relationship between a manure-based compost and an increased clover presence in turf.  Trials were done with Soil Essence Golf which has no ruminant (cow, sheep, goat) manure.  We seem to be seeing lower levels of clover pressure in turf with this recipe.  It is our opinion—and that of several researchers—that there is a natural stimulant in the manure of these animals that increases the broad-leaf diversity in pastures to increase the protein content in the forage in which they are grazing.  By eliminating the animal manure, we eliminate the unexplained presence of broad-leaf competition in turf.  We welcome any scientific data that either supports or opposes this theory.  All of the Soil Essence Humified Composts are exposed to three weeks of consistent 140-degree temperatures to eliminate all weed seeds.

Our Fairway Blend is another great product intended for the Golf Course environment.  This is a Compost-Sand blend that is designed to be mixed with a custom mineral package made specifically to address your soil sample guidelines.  You can now apply sand and a fertility program in one application!  The current ratio of sand to compost is 1:1.5, or 50-50 by weight.  This product can be custom blended to suit your needs.

Golf Course Sand is a "washed sand" that has been approved for use by several golf courses in our area.  It is also a sand that is being used for new golf course greens construction in the Reno-Tahoe area.  Our experience with washed sand in Nevada is that many locations recycle their wash water, thus concentrating the salts with each ton of sand that they wash.  We have found many sands that meet the golf course specifications but have extremely high sodium content.  Our golf course sand has consistently tested low in sodium.
