Fertile Mulch

FERTILE MULCH is the newest addition to our MULCHES product line and is the only product of its kind on the market today! After several years of research and experimentation, we have created one of the most innovative mulch products available!

Several years ago, lumber companies began suffering severe economic losses due to competition, environmentalists, and stiffer government regulations. In order to compensate for these losses, they began marketing the bark of the trees they were harvesting as well as chipped up waste wood that could not be milled for lumber as a new mulch product to be used everywhere and anywhere. Obviously, this industry has flourished and has actually become more profitable than the milled lumber itself.

What these companies have failed to tell the public is that most of these products must be treated with very toxic poisons in order to avoid importing pathogens, pests, and weed seeds. Furthermore, most of these products tend to rob your soil of precious nitrogen and other mineral elements due to the fact that they are in the process of decomposition and will remain in this state for a very, very long time. This is precisely why they fade from their original color to an ugly, dull shade of gray as soon as they are watered or rained upon. Unfortunately, the only other available options to these raw wood products have typically been expensive plastics, fabrics, or other synthetic materials. Until now…….

FERTILE MULCH is a unique by-product of our "Advanced Composting System." When we create our HUMIFIED COMPOST products, we use a variety of raw wood and green waste materials as our primary carbon sources. Once the composting process is complete, we screen the HUMUS into several different size sorts and sell the finest material, the "fines," as our finished SOIL ESSENCE HUMUS. The larger wood material that is left over, the "overs," is then screened again and the end result is our FERTILE MULCH!

Just like our SOIL ESSENCE HUMUS products, FERTILE MULCH has been biologically-humified and thermophyllically-sanitized, meaning that it is completely ORGANIC, will not import pests, pathogens, or weed seeds, and it’s rich, chocolate brown color will never fade! Furthermore, its fertility aspect is provided by the humus residual that coats the wood. Not only does FERTILE MULCH provide superior weed suppression and moisture retention, it actually protects your soil from the elements all year round and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, it helps to maintain the biological balance of your soil. For the ultimate SOIL SATISFACTION, we suggest using FERTILE MULCH in conjunction with one of our SOIL ESSENCE HUMUS products!

USAGE: Organic nutrient mulch for use in gardens, flower beds, and around trees. Best when used without any type of landscape fabric or plastic sheeting.

APPLICATION RATE: Top dress with 2"-3" and inspect two or three times per year. If roots begin to grow in the mulch, your plants have been planted too shallow in the soil and can quickly succumb to root death. If this occurs, either replant slightly deeper or slightly reduce the depth of the mulch.

IMPORTANT NOTE: With trees, keep mulch at least 4”-6” away from the trunk to avoid injury to the tree due to rodent inhabitation.

COVERAGE: 1 cubic yard of FERTILE MULCH will cover 325 square feet at a 1" application rate OR 216 square feet at a 2" application rate OR 108 square feet at a 3" application rate.
