Cool New Stuff at Full Circle Compost

Echinacea, The Miracle Flower

Craig, Liz, and Amber hit the road to Yerington, Nevada for an Echinacea Extraction class at Longevity Gardens.

Echinacea has long been known as an immune-boosting plant. Though some studies question the effectiveness of taking Echinacea extracts as a means to fight off colds and other sicknesses, those who have experienced the power of the flower cannot deny its benefits. Longevity Gardens, run by Ed and Peg Jensen, is a quaint organic garden in Yerington, Nevada, and has been working with Full Circle Compost for a number of years building the balance of nutrients in their soil with Soil Essence Plus and Soil Essence Elite. Ed offers hands-on extraction classes that allow students to pick their own materials right from the garden and learn step-by-step how to mix them all together to create a two-quart jar of tincture that will last for months and lessons that will last a lifetime.

Click to enlargeEd tells us to get a wide variety of materials - some stems and leaves, some new flowers, some old flowers, and even some buds. The diversity ensures that we get all that the plant has to offer at the various stages in its development.

Click to enlargeEnjoy the goodness of a home-grown, homemade delicious meal prepared by Peg Jensen herself. Everything on this colorful plate was grown or made right here at Longevity Gardens and words can't even describe how amazing it tasted!! Amber had two full plates of dinner and several helpings of the homemade dessert, too! The best part of the meal, though, is the conversation with good friends and a great instructor. Thanks, Ed!!
